My whirlwind week continues and somehow, between Sunday and 7pm yesterday and full days work, I managed to prepare most of the meal ahead. The Smoked snoek fishcakes on Sunday and the dessert in my lunch break yesterday. Then I escaped the office (work mostly done), early.
So, I had baked, cooked, set a pretty table and then plated last night's supper with with Selma and A and forgot to take photos!! Too busy nattering ... that Selma, too, didn't take much in between the ooh-ing and aah-ing. She managed to send me this, this morning:
Let me explain: about a week ago, and when we were confirming our arrangements, I asked what she'd like for supper.
Ooohhhh! Let me stalk your Instagram
After a little to-ing and fro-ing, I suggested smoked snoek (fish) cakes ...
...and garden loot!
Before I get to the menu, I should also explain that, somehow, she and I, over the years, have developed a tradition: the boys do beer and we do bubbly. It's about the only time I do bubbly and we don't see them often, so it's a happy excuse to indulge.
The menu, as you can see from Selma's collage:
- Starter: Beetroot and cucumber on rocket (arugula) dressed with tzatziki
- Main: Smoked snoek fish cakes served ona vine leafe and with a corn and tomato salsa on lettuce leaves
- To end: Baked nectarine and blueberry surprise with garden strawberries, garden mint and roses with cream.
After all was said and done, this is all that was left.
So lovely having them at our table again and in the village for nearly a week, so at the end of the evening, it literally was au revoir and not good bye.
Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:
- re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
- and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
