Being an airline employee, one of the benefits is getting discounts on airfare for self and relatives. However, should you want to get discount, you should also be willing to get a subload ticket —- this means that one can get a seat in the flight when there are empty ones.
My brother and his family decided to get a subload, an unconfirmed ticket last December to Manila. Unfortunately (or I may say, fortunately), they weren’t able to get a seat even after three days of trying. To cut the long story short, we decided to re-route their flight, and also my confirmed flight, to Ho Chi Minh City for the fear of extending the loss of days going to and fro Abu Dhabi airport.
And so we reached Vietnam, hungry and tired as we were, we finally met our friends back in Dubai who were now staying in Saigon. We had our lunch cum dinner in Popeye’s located just after exiting the airport.
My long time friend Agnes also came to see us. And finally Ate Ruby who also offered her flat for us to stay in during the night.
At the airport with the whole barkada:
At Ate Ruby’s cozy flat:
As Popeye’s food doesn’t represent Vietnam’s delicacies, we were treated by our hosts to a night walk in the city.
With their own version of sticky rice:
And an authentic Vietnamese Soup and Wraps:
Sugarcane juice is still available on the side street:
And few more walks to see the theatre where Miss Saigon was staged:
And their Municipal Hall, not sure what it is called:
Hotel Continental (we didn’t stay there, haha)
Grab on bikes are very common. Dianne just rode one to go home that night:
After spending the night, we headed off to the airport in the morning and this was taken while waiting for our grab car:
We couldn’t be much more blessed to see our friends in a not so planned night. For we know that things worketh for those who love God (ROMANS 8:28) And seeing them face to face just rekindled the friendship that we once and will always have.
Until we meet again in God’s will!
