Walking through our Todo a Dollar store, I spotted this game and knew we needed to buy it! We are big fans of the regular Apples to Apples game, but it requires the participants to be able to read. That is what attracted me to the Big Picture Edition - no reading! This will work for all ages of our kids (2 who sort of read and 3 who do not). So I bought it to see how it went.

We played it for the first time and everyone loved it!! Everyone gets 5 picture cards to choose from for each round. There are a lot of picture cards with a lot of different pictures ranging from silly to scary to a nature scene. Everything is covered.

The person who decides the winning card picks up a green card and chooses the topic for the round from two options. For example the card might say: Kooky - Strange, Bizarre, Wacky and Nimble - Quick, Agile, Graceful. Then each person finds a picture card from their hand and puts it in the middle, face down. The judge then looks at each picture and determines the winner. The winner gets to keep the green card and the next round is started with a new judge. This continues until one person has collected 5 (or 7 or 10 - however long you want the game to go) green cards.
Our 9, 7, and 6 year old kids can play this with little help (they just need help reading the topic). We then pair up with our 2 and 4 year old and help them figure out a good picture card to enter. It is funny to see what each person comes up with and what the judge will choose.
We had a great time playing it with Nana and Pop when they came to visit. The kids regularly ask to play this game. I say that it makes a great Christmas gift because it really is fun for all ages. If you are still looking for Christmas gifts, I highly recommend this game! I plan to buy it for a few of our families for Christmas this year! Great for birthdays, Hanukkah and any other gift-giving occasion as well! It runs about $15 on amazon.com!
The teacher in me also would like to note that it is great for learning synonyms and would be great for learning other languages. I can see how the pictures can be used in so many different ways!
What is your favorite card game?
