It all started in a small old Dutch town called Woerden where local shop owners rented a small indoor ice floor and thought of activities to take place there. They came up with an old variant of curling namely: TeaKettle Curling
The rules are equal to curling albeit that a teakettle is used instead, filled with water.
Two time winner Chiel - member of team Flauwe Curl *1) - portrayed below even set a tattoo of his kettle on his arm. In between the games in the bar (!) he had promised to do a tattoo when he would win the second year in a row.
*1 ) Flauwe Curl is hussled Dutch 'Flauwekul' which means Rubbish/ Funnystuf/Doing stupid etc
So how did the local initiative grow and where is it now?
When Dutchies do something we do it good. So all local winners have to be able to compete in the National Champion ships which were helt quickly in Bergen North Holland. Also open tournaments popped up indoors and (during winter) on outdoor "real"ice like here the Open Amelander Championship held on one of our beautifull islands in the north near Friesland/Frisia.
This team could not wait
If the Frisian Elfcity skate tour (below) is not possible (yet) you gotta have some other fun during winter!
What do you do in winter to have fun apart from steemit?
Bye
