I’m at Bonneville Salt Flats this week for Speed Week. For those that don’t know, this is a major place to set land speed records. There are no winnings here. The only thing that the owners/drivers get is bragging rights. It always amazes me how much money goes into the vehicles.
This is a F250 pickup with a 12V92 Detroit Diesel stuffed into it. The designation 12V92 means that the motor is a 12 cylinder motor with 92 cubic inches per cylinder. This motor is a two-stroke diesel. The motor itself is so massive that the driver seat is in the back seat. This motor has 6 turbochargers and 2 superchargers. There are 4 large turbos in the bed of the truck that feed the two massive turbos on either side of the motor. The turbos are set up in a compound configuration. Compressed air from the huge turbos are fed into 2 of the largest intercoolers I’ve ever seen. That air is then fed into two superchargers sitting on top of the motor.
