This is my entry into the
Hive account@fundition Contest of the Month which challenges the author to take a picture which includes a creative take on their heart logo. I am a keen vegetable grower, the greenhouse in the background of this photo is one of two dedicated to my ongoing love affair with growing the perfect tomato. Whether stripy Tigerella, plump Roma, sweet Sunnygolds or purple Indigo Rose, I just can't get enough of them and when the glut comes around I end up eating fresh tomatoes with every meal.
Unfortunately, most of the tomatoes haven't quite ripened yet which is why I only managed to squeeze two into my allotment inspired fundition heart. The heart is made up of companion plant basil, rhubarb and those two lonely tomatoes. Today was a quick visit to the allotment due to the changeable British weather putting in a good impression of autumn after the recent heat wave. Soon after this photo was taken the heavens opened saving me a job of watering the french beans ๐
Sustainability is an important part of living a planet-friendly lifestyle. I am a keen scuba diver and very passionate about ocean conservation. For me, attempting to grow a good portion of my food is all about buying as little from the supermarkets as possible. The devastation of plastic waste in the ocean is something I have witnessed first hand and a big part of this comes from plastic wrapping and bags. If we can cut down even 50% of humankind's consumption of this toxic material it would make a serious dent on the problem. If all plastic could be replaced, there would be a marked improvement on certain health issues around the world.
According to studies, 12% of plastic waste is burnt releasing toxic gases like Dioxins, Furans, Mercury and Polychlorinated Biphenyls into the atmosphere. These compounds have been proven to increase the risk of heart disease, aggravate respiratory ailments such as asthma, cause rashes, nausea or headaches, and damages the nervous system.
