Closing in the one year anniversary of Pokemon Go, another gift has been bestowed upon us from the Pokemon Universe. Magikarp Jump is currently available on Google Play and Apple Stores and definitely doesn’t disappoint. The premise of the game is pretty simple: train your Magikarp to jump higher than other Magikarps so it can be the best damn Magikarp it can be.
You can increase their jump power (JP) by feeding berries and Training. Coins and diamonds can be won through battles and also random events. Coins can then be used to upgrade training or berries, while diamonds can be used to purchase additional Pokemon friends to give you even more power-ups. Once you've maxed our your Magikarp, they go for one last hurrah and battle until they lose, after which they're sent into retirement to ever be creeping the background of your current Magikarp's pond. I have been playing for little over a week and now have a personal vendetta against every Magikarp that stands in my way. It brings back a certain nostalgia as Pokemon Go did, but this allows you to take that once useless Magikarp and use it to compete with virtual opponents. It brings some sense of satisfaction knowing that your Magikarp is less useless than others.
While I still haven’t abandoned my Pokemon Go playing, it is definitely nice to play a game while sitting in one spot, especially in this Mordor level humidity. I would recommend this game to anyone, even casual Pokemon fans. Kudos to Pokemon to keep making mobile games so this 90’s kid can keep living the dream of becoming the very best, like no one ever was.
