AT the first of two shows on Friday night, I got off stage after my opening host set and I said, "I am never doing stand up comedy again." It was a rough set.

Now I have over an hour's worth of jokes in my head, but I went blank when I got on stage. Totally forgot my plan of attack. I didn't do my two new jokes and barely even got a laugh the entire time I was there. It was rough.
When I got off stage I walked to one of the other comics and told them I quit... of course I was joking and again it wasn't too funny.
It is challenging to do comedy if you are not fully prepared. I was seating guests, running food and helping the servers take drink orders for a crowd that was a lot for our new servers to handle. I didn't get a chance to review my game plan before I got on stage and went directly from dropping off some wings to table 6 to walking on stage and getting the show started.
To be honest, it is tough when you bomb. I wouldn't say I totally bombed because I was able to make fun of the fact that my jokes were not working and got some laughs making fun of myself. Always a good topic.
After the show, I took a minute to smoke a cigarette and get my mind right. Gathered my thoughts for the second show and by the time I got on stage for the second show I was ready to kill it... and I did. Rocked the second set of the night.
It just goes to show that life is a lot like comedy... If you plan ahead a little you will do a lot better than just winging it. At least that is what I've learned so far.
