Intrigue, Investigations, Murders and Suspense. There is everything in Twin Mirror that could make this game good. However, production is average at best. Why?
DontNod is known for creating games where narrative plays a major role. In the case of Twin Mirror, they do not abandon the already trodden path, so we immediately know what to expect from the game. Anyone who has had contact with the titles of this studio before will feel at home. Paranormal phenomena have been replaced by something else, but the overall mechanics of the play remain unchanged.
Investigative journalist
In the game, we play the role of Sam Higgs, a journalist hated by the inhabitants of Basswood in West Virginia. Due to the events of the past and the hostility of the local community, the hero decided to burn the bridges behind him and leave this small town, breaking all contacts with all his friends. Years later, however, he was forced to return to Basswood and face the demons of the past and the challenges of the present.
There can be only one reason for the journalist's visit to the town: the funeral of his best friend.
Stiff, stiff and not very attractive
The price of the Twin Mirror should make you think. The game cost half of the premiere of other high-budget productions, so you shouldn't expect too much of it. This, of course, we see on the screen.
The title is… graphically moderate. The landscapes and shots look good from a distance, but close-ups of characters, vehicles and everything else make it clear that this is a graphic medium.
Technically, it is also on the same level. The figures move stiffly, with the grace of a stiff with a broomstick stuck where you know it. Natural, human movements are missing. Instead, we have robotic behavior. And since this is a game focused mainly on narration, there are many moments that clearly reveal these problems.
Also, don't be fooled by static pictures. The game in the screenshots even shows up.
Twin Mirror is a stepping stone from other addictive games. Compelling storyline may not be enough to entice players to buy. Sam's Dangerous Adventure is a moderately successful production, and certainly the studio's worst game to date.
