Welcome to another IBT survival Island update - exclusive to Hive.
This is a significant update as we have overcome a number of problems now and have performed some early AI transplants... with some promising, but mixed success...but gee, it is looking promising.
Anyway as per the last weekly update, its pretty rare to see aussie animals in a game, so we are building them from scratch and IBT survival island has given birth to the first native animal (drum roll)... please welcome Bob the Emu.
Ok so it's not perfect, but damn its cool and fun to see our unique emu Bob in game haha.... I once saw a sparrow attacking one in the bush, damn the antics were funny, hmmn so expect some fun animations and interactions - let the fun begin.
3D emu mesh
Ok so the background is we are evolving our "Emu mesh" with some success. In UE4 these are known as skeletal meshes. Skeletal meshes are moveable/playable meshes where static meshes just sit around looking good. So basically a skeletal mesh has a bone structure within it and this shows the editor how it moves. For example, where the knees bend, its neck bends etc. Also the bone structure is used to animate the mesh with.
Here is a quick example how it has been built out:
But wait...there is more..
Pelican prototype
Since we are working on birds at the moment we are trying to introduce a variety of birds found on the coastline of australia. Yes seagulls are very common but we have decided to go as far as having pelicans. Like the emu this is a work in progress but so far it doesn't look too bad, what do you think IBT fans? (haha be kind, arty stuff is not a strong point)..
That's it for this Significant update, Yay!!!
