It is that time of the year again. As a huge game of thrones (GOT) fan and as someone who has not read the books, I used to be extremely excited about what new plot a new season might throw. And by excited, I mean binging on episodes from the previous season, reading several fan theories at the expense of the plot being spoiled and watching interviews of the panoply of stars cast on GOT. Oddly enough I haven't done any of that it this year. Here are three reasons why I am not as excited this year.
There will not be a moment like this one
The plot has advanced so much by now that there may never be a moment like this one.
It is by far my favorite scene in the entire series. Everything from Peter Dinklage's (Tyrion Lannister) mindblowing monologue, to the background score and the shouting in the people seated at the back and finally the way Pedro Pascal (Prince Oberyn) leans forward intrigued is so beautifully scripted.
And I say this because it seems like the season is all about the build up to the great war and the great war itself. There will be less scope for dramatic moments like this one.
Where are the Direwolves?
I have loved the connection the Starks had with their direwolves since season 1. Although I never read the books, I have loved reading about how beautifully the relationship of the wolves and Starks have been constructed in the books as well. This scene probably constructs it in the most beautiful way.
But apparently bringing them to life in the series is an expensive affair. That's one reason why we didn't see Ghost in the Battle of Bastards. Most of them have been killed with Shaggy dog and Summer becoming the latest victims in Season 6. Therefore, it is safe to assume that we will see less of them going forward.
Most of my favorite characters are already dead
Robb Stark, Oberyn Martell, Margaery Tyrell, Hodor, Greywind, Stannis Baratheon were among fan favorites that are already dead. Obviously GOT won't be GOT without dead characters. But that still leaves a season with a limited pool of characters to watch for.
What about you guys? Are you guys still as excited as you were in the past? Let me know in the comments!
