For many years now, the RTS genre is in deep decline. Gone are the days of cult Warcraft and Age of Empires, major projects are released no more than twice a year, and the main representative of real-time strategies - StarSraft 2 - for many years does without serious competitors.
There are several reasons for this. Classic RTS with the collection of resources and the construction of the base - the game is quite complicated. They, as a rule, require the player to have a competent allocation of resources, multitasking, tactical warping on the battlefield and, in addition, a lot of free time. The result of decisions taken is often not immediately apparent, and many fans of Age of Empires are familiar with the situation when one game game was stretched for several hours.
In addition, the genre itself for a long time almost did not evolve. Players participated in the exact reconstruction of historical battles, immersed themselves in the fantastic universes of their favorite films and books and got involved in grandiose battles of a galactic scale. The number of units on the battlefield was estimated in the thousands and was limited only to the power of iron. The scale and the number of actions per minute grew, but the general mechanics of RTS obeyed the honed algorithms and did not change.
