Former chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, replaced by Tsuyoshi Kodera late last year, Andrew House recently spoke with the press about the next generation of machines, a hot topic.
As the PlayStation 4 enters its fifth year of existence, the question of the following machines begins to arise; and between the arrival of the PS4 Pro but also the PlayStation Now, it is difficult to know what tomorrow will be done. At Polygon's microphone, Andrew House gave his point of view.
The man believes first that the current PlayStation still has things to offer us, and goes in the direction of recent statements indicating that nothing will emerge before 2020. Regarding the shape of the next generation, House recalls that five years ago already, some prophesied the end of the consoles; which is not yet near to arrive according to him. Especially because developing markets like China are still almost virgin, and the disc remains a lever of importance.
The former president, however, is enthusiastic about streaming and is among the many players in the industry to predict his arrival. Taking as an example the success of the original PlayStation and the choice of CD-ROMs rather than cartridges, he explains that a shift in distribution can change a market and bring out new actors. "There is no reason why streaming can not be present in the game, as it is in the film, music and television industries," he says.
