Ahoy! The Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO has ended this past evening for me. I've walked around and played a bit on most days, some days there was a bit of bad weather and then I didn't play much as I don't enjoy the combination of heavy wind and rain together. Just rain by itself is fine, but the wind always trying to take away my umbrella is annoying. On the other days I did go for some good walks and played.
For this event we had a Friendship Challenge and a Catch Challenge, I showed the tasks in my post about the event. Here are photos of when I completed them all and the encounters I got. I have placed them in order from top to bottom from the tasks, here from the left to the right.
I was quite surprised there was a Corphish in the encounter rewards, because it wasn't part of the event spawns and not in Eggs either.
When the event was ongoing I checked, and I did actually have a Lucky Litleo already, but I was still missing Lucky Pyroar as I had never evolved it yet. I traded some Paras with a friend until I got a Lucky Paras from the trades and then evolved it. So now I have Lucky Paras, Parasect and Pyroar in the Pokédex.
Once again not really many Shiny encounters this event. I had 2 Shiny encounters. The first one was a Shiny Litleo during the Spotlight Hour. That one was great as its a new Shiny from the event so I obviously didn't have it yet. The 2nd Shiny was a Magikarp, not too fascinating to encounter that one as I already had many of that one. Here you can see the stats for both.
My priority for catches in the event were definitely Paras and Meowth first, because of their 500 Stardust. Then Magikarp, Torchic, Combusken and Litleo. At some point the Gold Medal for Fisher popped up on my screen, which came as quite the surprise! I clicked it away before I took a screenshot, so I went to my medals to take one there for the Platinum progress.
The Gold Medal requires to catch 300 big Magikarp. They're not that often the proper weight to qualify for this. So it was definitely a surprise when that Gold Medal popped up! Now this Platinum Medal is something that I might not ever get honestly because it took me this long to get the Gold one, and then the Platinum requirement jumps from 300 to 1000 😅 It's alright if this medal stays at Gold, it's quite good the way it is now.
How did the Lunar New Year event go for you, did you get anything nice?
