The Lunar New Year event has come to an end. I didn't play as much during this event, because we've had freezing temperatures since before the event started and they lasted all week. So it was pretty cold and annoying with snow turning to ice to really go for long walks. On top of that the temperature seemed to have quite an effect on my battery duration when I did go outside for short walks and nearby Raids.
As I was slowly trying to increase my amount of PokéBalls in preparation for the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event, I noticed how my amount of Rare Candy had grown. I usually just give it to some Legendary Pokémon that I don't have a high amount of candy for, in preparation of potentially getting a 100% IV. However I wasn't sure which one I wanted to give some to, and considering I had over 400, I decided to put them in Cobalion. I've had this 100% IV Cobalion for quite some time, but never powered it up because it maxes out at 3022 CP at level 40 and it doesn't have a great moveset. My several Metagross outperform this Cobalion for Steel-type attacks. When I have a 100% Legendary I do want it maxed to level 40 at least, so the time had come to give some Rare Candy and power it up. My 2nd 100% Cobalion will likely not be powered up. You can see the power up process here.
During the event we had a Lunar New Year Timed Research available. Mega Gyarados was introduced with the event and every step of the event gave encounters with event featured Pokémon and some Gyarados Mega Energy. One of these encounters, for the Year of the Ox, was a Tauros encounter. Which is a great encounter due to it being a regional Pokémon.
This event featured increased chances to become Lucky Friends and an increased chance for Pokémon to become Lucky when trading. So I traded this Tauros with a friend. Unfortunately it didn't become Lucky. Though I should be able to encounter Tauros during the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto, so we'll see if I can trade some of those!
I did do a lot of trading during the event, at least one day I reached the max daily limit of 100 trades. Some days the trades may have been below 50 in total if I was too busy. Here you can see some of the Pokémon that I received Lucky in mirror trades.
As you can see, this includes a lot of Lucky Unown. I decided to keep the majority of my Unown from GO Fest last summer, to trade them during events with increased chance of Lucky Pokémon. Which was now. So I mirror traded more than 100 Unown, being letters G and O. Out of those I got 16 Lucky Unown. The best ones are a 98% IV for Unown G and then a 96% IV Unown G and an O. These are higher IVs than the 3* Unown that I caught during GO Fest. The friend I mirror traded with even got a 100% Unown from the trades, which was so awesome to see!
Some of the Legendary Pokémon obtained during this event were quite bad. The best 3 can be see in this photo.
Still no luck with getting a 100% Articuno. It will come back to Raids for Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto, so hopefully this time I will be able to get a 100% Articuno. I will most likely obtain at least 1 more Lucky Articuno from a Lucky Friend Trade before then.
The yearly Valentine's Day celebration event has already started quickly after the end of this event, and will last until February 18 at 8 pm local time. The bonus increase for getting Lucky Friends and Lucky Pokémon as well as increased trade distance from the Lunar event will last throughout the Valentine's Day celebration event too!
