Earlier this week the Festival of Colors event started in Pokémon GO. It will be active until March 20 at 8 pm local time.
During this event Lure Modules will stay active for 3 hours. You can take multiple snapshots per day to get Smeargle encounters, which can also be Shiny if you encounter it during the event! From my experience it's 5 Smeargle encounters per day from snapshots.
Oricorio, the Dancing Pokémon, is making its debut in Pokémon GO during this event. This Pokémon was first discovered in the Alola region, so it makes sense that it makes its debut during the Season of Alola.
Oricorio has 4 different styles. In Pokémon Sun and Moon you can use different kinds of nectar to let Oricorio change its form. They sip on the nectar of various flowers to change their form which makes their colour different and event alters their typing!
In Pokémon GO they can't be changed, but their style will instead depend on the region in the world where it's encountered. This is the list based on them from left to right in the thumbnail.
- Baile Style (Fire/Flying): Europe, Middle East and Africa
- Pom-Pom Style (Electric/Flying): America
- Pa'u Style (Psychic/Flying): African, Asian, Pacific and Caribbean islands
- Sensu Style (Ghost/Flying): Asia-Pacific region
So for me it's the Baile Style Oricorio that I can encounter. Here is my first encounter with one and its Pokédex registry.
During this event there is a collection challenge for which you need to catch almost all the event spawns. The only one you don't have to catch is Croagunk, and the rarer spawns which are Beautiful, Dustox and Alomomola.
Completing the Collection Challenge gives you an Oricorio encounter from your region. Here you can see the Collection Challenge and the encounter reward I got.
Event Field Research Tasks
Castform and Burmy are also included in the event, but only from Field Research Tasks. Alolan Grimer is also added to these as Alolan Muk has many different colours. Kanto Starters are featured too, as well as Mega Energy for their evolutions. This is the list:
- Catch 5 different species of Pokémon: Castform ✨, Sunny Form Castform, Rainy Form Castform ✨ OR Snowy Form Castform
- Catch 8 different species of Pokémon: Plant Cloak Burmy ✨, Sand Cloak Burmy ✨ OR Trash Cloak Burmy ✨
- Catch 10 different species of Pokémon: Oricorio (your region's Style)
- Catch 3 Grass-type Pokémon: Bulbasaur ✨ OR 20 Venusaur Mega Energy
- Catch 3 Fire-type Pokémon: Charmander ✨ OR 20 Charizard Mega Energy
- Catch 3 Water-type Pokémon: Squirtle ✨ OR 20 Blastoise Mega Energy
- Hatch an Egg: Alolan Grimer ✨
I'll especially try to look out for the Burmy quests and try to do some of the ones for the Kanto Starters and the Mega Energy. I haven't Mega Evolved any Charizard yet nor Blastoise, but it'll be good to build up some Mega Energy for them. I do have a great Charizard for Mega Charizard X already, so I should really just Mega Evolve it sometime.
