Ahoy! The Season of Heritage has now ended, and for the next 3 months we are going into the Season of Alola! We already had all the Alolan versions of Kantonian Pokémon in the game. Now it's time for some of Pokémon originally discovered in the Alolan region to come into the game.
On Sunday we briefly had a lot of Alolan Exeggutor showing up in the wild as a preview taste for the Season of Alola. This was unnanounced, and only announced right as it was happening. It was great sunny weather, still cold as it's the end of February but really pleasant outside. I was outside at the time and so I started playing when we heard about them appearing. After an hour or two their spawns decreased.
Here is an AR photo from that day, which I took in one of the local parks.
They still spawned regularly after that, but less than the first 1-2 hours. Throughout the Season of Alola they will still spawn a bit , and so will the other Alolan versions of Kantonian Pokémon.
The season starts of with a Welcome to Alola event, that adds a few Pokémon from Alola found on the Melemele island into the game. Which includes the starter Pokémon.

We start off with a Collection Challenge that has us catch all of the new Wild Encounters. These are the starters Rowlet, Litten and Popplio and also Pikipek and Yungoos. Yungoos can apparently already be Shiny too! There's also Comfey, but this is a regional Pokémon appearing only in Hawaii.

It requires evolving Yungoos. There is also a Special Research available called "A Melemele Adventure".
Other than the Wild Encounters mentioned above, there are two more Pokémon. Rockruff, which is currently only found in 1-star Raids and in 10 km Eggs, which can already be Shiny too. Jangmo-o which is only in 10 km Eggs. And Tapu Koko which is the Legendary in 5-star Raids right now.
There are some Event Research Tasks for Poké Balls, Great Balls and Ultra Balls. There are great after we just had the Pokémon GO Tour: Johto.
Only one Event Research Task with encounters right now. It requires to walk 1 km and can give either Yungoos OR Pikipek as the encounter reward.
More info about the Season of Alola can be found on the official site: https://pokemongolive.com/en/seasons/alola/
Throughout the season during different events more Pokémon from the Alola Region will come out, so stay tuned.
