Spinda was finally released in Pokémon GO early August as a reward from field research quests. The field research quest for which you have to make 3 curveball throws in a row that gives a spawn as a reward gives Spinda as the spawn. It can come in 8 different styles unlike the main Pokémon games where its patterns are unlimited. That'll also be the reason why it took significantly longer than the majority of gen 3 Pokémon for it to be released to the game. As Niantic was tackling the issues of how to handle Spinda and its unlimited patterns. Which they seem to have tackled by giving us 8 different ones. It's a lot less, but still great for collector's to have several different patterns to collect!
The first few days of the quest release it didn't show up at all in my city, except perhaps at one Pokéstop but I was unable to go there that day. This past day it was available from one Pokéstop and a friend let me know about it. When I was with my team to take over the gym one of our members said she heard about two Pokéstops in a nearby city giving the quest too. So poppenvader decided that we could go there by car to get those quests. After taking we over the gym three of us, including his wife, then went home with him to go get his car and drive there. When we had those two quests from there we passed by the one in our city too, as two of us were initially planning to get it after taking over the gym.
Finally I would be able to get my first Spinda, and even three immediately! Completing the quests didn't take long, with just 3 Pokémon I was able to easily complete it.
Here we can see the 3 Spinda from my quest reward in their capture screen. With each of them their CP increased. I love how the start of the catch screen for the first one made it face to the right, and for the last one it made it face left. So it looked as if they were both looking at the middle one!
After catching the first one I had this beautiful shot of it finally getting registered into my Pokédex!
It really looks so adorable with the way it moves around! I'm so glad that I finally caught it! What I did notice was that they all seemed to have the same pattern. So I went to my Pokédex to confirm.
Indeed, as seen in the Pokédex I have caught 3 Spinda, and only style 8 is marked. So all 3 of my Spinda indeed have the same pattern. I haven't looked into it just yet, but I'm thinking that these patterns might be different every day. Perhaps they could depend on the region in which they're caught too, which could then rotate too. I'll definitely look into that later and check with my friends tomorrow what pattern their Spinda have.
