In one of my last articles, I wrote about what my top five favorite games of all time were. I had mentioned possibly extending it to a top ten list, but I thought that it would be too tough. Over the past day or so it's been something that's been on my mind and I've finally come up with a list to finish my top ten favorite games of all time!
Without further ado, let's get into it!
Super Mario Bros. 3
Breaking in at number 10 is Super Mario Bros. 3. I feel like this game deserved a spot somewhere on this list because it's the one game that single-handedly got me into gaming way back when I was a young kid. While I enjoyed the original Super Mario Bros, this game took everything that was great about the original and made it ten times better! It's an iconic game and rightfully so. To this day, I think this is one of the best Mario games that I've ever played. Even today, many gamers from around the world love to play and speedrun this iconic game!
Donkey Kong 64
Coming it at number 9 is Donkey Kong 64. This was the first Nintendo 64 game that I ever played and after only a few hours of playing it, I was addicted! The gameplay and platforming is just great. The five main characters all have their own unique abilities and personalities and the level designs are just incredible. I remember back when I was in maybe 5th or 6th grade how as soon as I got off the school bus , I would run to my room to play this great game. I never actually beat it sadly, but I did get right up to the end of it. Even after my little sister deleted my save file accidentally, I loved this game enough to start over and jump right back in. This game wouldn't be on most people's top ten list, but it's the first 3D platformer game that I ever played and I really loved it!
Super Mario 64
How could I possibly leave this game off? When you talk about some of the most iconic games of all time and especially the most iconic Mario games of all time, this game is one of the first to pop into peoples' minds. For many, this was the first 3D platformer that most people played and it was beautifully executed in every way. The game was fun, the levels were vast, and there were many secrets to be discovered. To this day, this is one of the most speedran games of all time. This game holds a special place in many gamers' hearts. It's just a really good game and definitely deserves my number 8 spot.
Banjo-Kazooie
Coming in at number 7 is Banjo-Kazooie. While Super Mario 64 was a really good game, I feel like Banjo-Kazooie took the "collecthathon" games that were iconic on the N64 to a whole new level. The hub world as well as the individual levels are just something else. The music is some of the best of any N64 game. My personal favorite part though, is the character design. While the bird and bear combo of Banjo and Kazooie are humorous, the real unsung heroine of this game is Gruntilda. Never have I liked an antagonist more than Gruntilda. She's quite lovable with all of her rhymes even for being an old grumpy hag. She's witty and just has a charm to her that I've never seen any other antagonist have before. This game is impressive and even today, this game still looks and feels great to play!
Grand Theft Auto 5
If you read my top five games of all time list, then you knew this game was coming in at number 6. What can I even say about this game that hasn't already been said. The three main characters are interesting with all of their own unique backstories with a real chemistry between the three that you just don't see in many games. You have a huge open world that's your own playground to explore. Even playing online is an absolute blast to play! This is not only the best Grand Theft Auto game of all time, but many reviewers gave it a 10/10 without hesitation and that's really saying something. Whether you're new to the GTA series or a long-time fan, one thing is for sure... you're going to love this game!
