I just checked some of the user reviews on TLOU2 and Gosh darn people are stupid. Some of the reviews came even before anyone could have finished the game. Some of the reviews came because people were homophobic, and some purely emotional after something happened in the game. Guys do not trust user reviews, trust the critics reviews.
The first one was filled with a level of emotion people didn’t expect in a video game, Sarah’s death (safe to see if you’ve played or even seen the first part of the last of us 1) was probably one of the most emotional parts in the game, but gamers didn’t rage over this because they had only been introduced to her and they practically knew the story wasn’t about her. After that, the emotional significance of the character development and the impact on the relationship between Joel and Ellie only went up throughout the game. You can also see that the game pushes characters away after a short period of time as they only wanted to focus on Joel and Ellie. The ending was very thought provoking and it also allowed players to look at it from Joel’s perspective as they have also been part of the significance and development of emotion throughout the game.
The last of us part 2 was very different. 1 was a masterpiece, but two took it to a whole other level. The thing that surprised me about naughty dog is that they went to opposite extremes in these two games but still managed to maintain what the game was built around, emotion. Love and hate were very crucial aspects in the game, and the second one was a combination of both. It was a hate journey because of love. All of the components of hate manifesting throughout the game reminds us that there is also a development in this game as well, but people have been blinded by emotion in this game. Emotion was flipped, and people only focused on that flipping.
