In what for me was an unexpected announcement, Niantic has announced the star Pokémon of the next community day event in February. Swinub, which is from Generation Two will be the featured Pokémon and spawn more often during the event on February 16, 2019. Instead of following their typical trend of alternating rare Pokémon with the starters of each generation they have opted to instead use a Pokémon related to the season which is winter and to correlate with their generation to the enter currently featuring Hoenn Region Pokemon.
As usual the community day event will last for three hours and will be on a Saturday this time around. They also are changing some of the rewards that we will be getting during the day as they mix it up with rewards not necessarily for just catching these Pokémon. For example, the rare item Sinnoh stones can be earned during the day for participating in trainer battles. Up to five can be earned on that day. Up to five rewards per day will be earned also in the battles for the entire weekend. This will be the first time that they had rewards related to trainer battles and something different from just catches.
This community day event will also unlock the latest evolution for generation for for this family of Pokémon, called Mamoswine. This will be able to be evolved with the Sinnoh stone and if evolved during the event the Pokémon will learn an exclusive move. The move will most likely be one attractive to being an ice-type Pokemon.
Also, similar to previous events there will be additional features regarding the Pokémon. There will be a triple bonus for Stardust when catching Pokémon during the day as well as lure modules will last for three hours during the event. Lastly, you will have a chance to encounter the shiny form of the Pokémon Swinub in increased probabilities during the event. Good luck and catch ‘em all!
Thanks!
