They are out there. Those video game music tracks that get you pumped. That make you want to kick some alien-, demon- or genetically mutated super solider-ass.
I am talking about those beats that make you feel invincible as you go up against seemingly insurmountable odds. The beats that make you feel like you are one of those 80s/90s action heroes.
But which are the best of the best for kicking some villainous butt?
Here are my top 5!
Number 5: Battletoads – Intermission Screen (Genesis version)
I know, I know – starting the list of with some kind of loading screen music is sure to raise some eyebrows. But hear me out! This short little track (and that weird bird guy fumbling on those machines), will get you pumped for the mission(s) to come. And you will need all the adrenaline that you can get, as this game is one of the hardest on any system, let alone on the Genesis.
Number 4: Ninja Gaiden – Main Theme (Xbox version)
Ninja Gaiden is not for the faint of the heart. Like Battletoads this is one hell of a difficult game. Just listening to the main theme gives me the chills and brings back memories of having to battle some of the most gruesome bosses in gaming history. The track perfectly captures the tension-filled atmosphere of the title and the endurance it takes to best it.
Number 3: Jet Force Gemini – Sekhmet
This often overlooked Nintendo 64 classic has an incredible soundtrack on offer. A fact that made it hard to pick just one track. In the end I settled on the epic beats of Sekhmet. The music perfectly underscores the situation, as you are on a hostile spaceship and have to battle hordes of alien insects. Listen to it and become the one-man army the universe needs!
Number 2: Contra III – Neo Kobe Steel Factory
Now, steel is something you need to be made of when you want to beat Contra III. While most gamers probably think of the title track when they hear this shooters name, I have to give the nod to the song that is being played in Stage 3. It is so epic that it makes you want to transform into a 90s badass and rid the world of all those evil thugs.
Number 1: Doom – At Dooms Gate
This had to be number one. The song in stage 1 is the perfect set-up for the rest of the game. It gets your blood pumping, your heart rate rising, your eyes popping, your nose bleeding, I could go on and on. A great track for sending all those demons back to hell.
So, there you have it! My top 5 kick-ass tracks from videogames.
I hope you enjoyed the list! What are your favorite video-game music tracks that make you feel like you are a total bad-ass? I would love to read it in the comments below!
Have a good one!
