Just over 50 hours of gaming in 4 days later, finally wrapped up a pretty comprehensive playthrough of Cyberpunk. Completed all the side content outside of the completionist stuff (buy all upgrades/cars/find every crime/etc). Below are my thoughts on the game, hype and if you should give it a spin, I'll try to avoid spoilers but you know..
Tl:dr: If you got the gear and want to play a good quality futuristic RPG this year - get the game, you'll enjoy it, just set your expectations right. Otherwise, wait till feb once patches and new content comes out.
If you're still here, wake the fuck up samurai and read my essay (please).
In the current state on a decent PC, I still had a generally good time, mostly over 60FPS at high settings all around; it was a smooth ride.
Crashed only 3 times, with longest game time without a crash being 20h in game.
Bugs, the bane of this game's hype. For first 30ish hours of the game, I barely had any issues with it, no Tposes, floating items, etc. But as I got closer to the game's finale, it has gotten massively worse with issues popping a lot more frequently, both in main as well as side missions. Gladly, none of them were game breaking, mostly just visual glitches.
Story itself was a mixed bag for me, for a lot of the cast of core characters, unless you do their side content (and quests hit your personal notes) is very forgettable.
For example, I remember and relate more to Okada-san or Dakota , some of the fixers (see: completionist quest givers with minor story beats) more than I do some major characters like Yorinobu or T-Bug.
That being said, while I wholeheartedly agree with critique of Keanu's voice acting skills as Johnny Silverhand, I actually think as I walked the story with him, the semi-monotone, always angsty voice actually fit the character well!
Gameplay & progression itself was actually good, like advertised, you start off being a bit shit at everything and as you play the game, your options on how to approach an encounter expand, making it more fun as you get more into the game, sadly upto a certain peak. For me it got to the point that at hard difficulty, I was 1-3 hitting most enemies depending on the weapon and enemy type. Guns, vehicles, hacking, it all felt responsive and allowed me to smoothly mix in different aspects within split second decisions with ease. Whenever I did die, it was due to me going head first without a plan, so good shit there.
Audio in this game I think deserves one of the biggest praises out of everything that has been accomplished around this title. From tracks specifically made for the game by a number of artists, sound FX to voice actors, I didn't enjoy the soundscape in an RPG as much as I did here for a while.
Now, should you get this game? If you're into RPG games with elements of other genres, yes, if you're after a GTA in future, probably not so much.
As it currently stands, game retails for 50 british pesos, but even with bugs ironed out, I do feel after the first comprehensive playthrough, there isn't too much that's wanting me to go back and replay it X amount of times… thus I'd get it on an offer, 30-40 sounds like a reasonable offer for someone who might not do all side quests and wants to still experience a decent 10-20h main story.
