I wanted to bring up this topic. It is something I care about and only when things go wrong. I spend an exorbatant time sitting on a chair in front of the computer. I am not by any means an expert on this subject. I have however, been through so many chairs now, I feel I have a grip on the market in the US for computer chairs.
It is a battle! I have been down the $160 chair road and it is not pretty. They are made of crap and fall apart in sometimes six months. At my place of work I am set to a $200 limit. Same deal these chairs are horrible and I feel bad just sitting in them day to day. You wear them down and you end up sitting on a peice of wood. Circulation gets cut off in your legs and it starts to not hold you up anymore on the lean back.
At home I went through chairs like no one I know. Break them throw them out run to the nearest home depot or office depot and get another. This went on until I bit the bullet and ordered one of those gamer racing chairs built for a big man and costing around $600. This one lasted and the foam actually held up. Now I am dealing with the external pleather peeling off of it. Maybe it is leather but I doubt it. Still arguably worth money. DXRacer was my brand name and I am still sitting on it.
At work I finally found a solution. I am six foot three inches and about two hundred and fifty pounds. I convinced my work place to exceed their limit for me (back problems, not really but it worked). I went for a big man's chair. I mean a REALLY big man's chair. They come wider in the seat but are rated for 500 pounds and seven years of wear and tear. The one thing I noticed was steel frames on the legs and the arms. It is something everyone should look for. When a chair has to be steel framed to handle the weight of a larger person it will last longer for them and really anyone else. Again, it worked and it lasts and now it is peeling. Pleather again most likely.
So I am happy but I am always looking for that next best thing and really the reason I wanted to post up. I am excited to see BMW is taking gaming chairs seriously and they have put out what I think may just be the solution to my problem. Think about it. Car manufacturers know how to build chairs that last. Check it out!
