After the reports were published, Telltale Games decided to show the authenticity of the reports. The company confirmed its intention to begin studio closures after the studio faced obstacles and changes described as insurmountable.
The company confirmed that it had already laid off the entire staff and retained only 25 employees in order to complete commitments with partners. Pete Hawley, CEO of the company, said he wished his demobilized staff would contribute to the narrative storyline they had characterized in the game industry.
It was a very difficult year for the company. We tried to put the company on a new path, but time was not enough for us. This year we launched products from our best business. We got amazing feedback and a lot of momentum, but that did not translate into sales. It is great to leave our employees to spread storytelling through the gaming industry.
After this confirmation, other reports spread that the few employees were left to work on the Minecraft Story Mode project that brings them together with Netflix. The other projects, especially The Walking Dead: The Final Season, will be discontinued
