Hey everyone
Today I am here to talk about a game that isn't really new but that I've actually completely forgotten that I own. The game is Watch Dogs 2. This game I received with a coupon when I bought my graphics card and they had some kind of campaign for it.
I've always really liked open world games like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row due to them giving you a sort of freedom in the game that most don't. The first Saints Row game was in my opinion the best but I think they really started losing it when the story was about aliens and gods and stuff. Watch Dogs was also open world but when I played it on my PC, the driving and other controls really made the game kind of hard to enjoy. I've noticed the driving thing in a lot of other open world games too. It's kind of hard to explain but the steering is just very weird and hard to control. I hope you know what it is I mean.
Watch Dogs 2 however looked very promising from the very first time I started seeing ads and trailers for it on the internet. The game was released in November 2016 and the developer is Ubisoft Montreal. It's set in the San Francisco Bay Area and it's a third person game. The graphics are really beautiful as you can see in this picture:
I really always liked the idea of Watch Dogs where you are able to hack things using your phone. This means everything from traffic lights to civilian smart phones. As you level up you also unlock perks which let you do a number of things with hacking and other equipment you use.
The story is pretty cool too. You play as Marcus Holloway who is a hacker that starts working with a hacking group called DedSec. Their mission is to take down the city's surveillance system which is called ctOS. The ctOS is a surveillance system that connects everyones devices like phones with eachother and let's the government take all of the information that is passed through there. You can complete the missions in different ways and progress in the game in your own pace. The city has a lot to offer you so you might take your time. Another really cool function they have in the game is that it's kind of multiplayer and you can co-op with friends and sometimes if another player is causing too much havoc you can get a mission to take him down. I also noticed immediately when I started playing that they had fixed all the things that I disliked in the first game. The driving was better and also the hacking had become much more easy to use and just overall better.
After a little research I learned that they had completely overhauled the driving mechanics for this one and even taken in actual hackers to give them advice on making the game seem authentic. So it seems they actually did their best to make this game a success and I have to say it really feels like a great game now.
You have other things than your phone at your disposal as well like a drone that you can use to fly around and take photos or hack peoples phones.
There is also a 3D Printer in all of the DedSec headquarters that you can use to craft weapons and other equipment. It's incredibly fast at making assault rifles for you. As you can see in the picture it's also pretty big.
San Francisco is a really beautiful city and there is always something to do. This can range from taking down criminal groups to driving around for people like an Uber. I've been playing for about 40 hours now and I've not completed as much of the game as I would've thought. Even though I've spent a lot of my time just doing stupid stuff and driving around hacking people.
I also want to mention that the free running that you can do in the game is also really awesome. You can almost parkour around the city and it let's you get around so easily and smoothly that you might not even want to use any vehicles at all. Here is a snap I took while doing some kind of cool flip over a fence. The picture turned out a little blurry but I thought it still looked pretty cool. So you kind of get the idea of how you move in the game. I might post a video at some point in the future.
As I said earlier I received this game in some campaign that was being held when I bough my GPU but if you are interested you can get the game for 15.50€ on G2A. If you like open world games in this way then I would recommend you try it out. If you also like hacking then you will love this game.
If you've already tried this game then let me know what you thought of it in the comments below! I really like the game so far. That was it for my review of Watch Dogs 2. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you liked it! :)
Have a good week everyone!
