A game being cancelled is something that gamers don't like to hear & developers don't like to do.
But cancelled games is something that does happen more than you think. Gamers are left disappointed after some hype has been generated over a possible new release, and game developers and publishers are left out of pocket because reasons,,, or because there a bunch of corporate dicks.
Thankfully, with modern technology, we can now play some of the games that were cancelled via emulation or on the new Nintendo mini consoles.
Here are 5 cancelled Nintendo games you can play today.
5 – Resident Evil – GameBoy Colour.
Resident Evil is an iconic game that spawned a whole host of sequels, spin off's, novels, Hollywood films and inspired a shit ton of imitations and inspired even more games. It had been ported onto a few other gaming platforms but it never made it to the GameBoy colour.
It was a very ambitious attempt to cram all the detail and full gaming experience of the game, down to the point it could be played on the GameBoy. The game was about 90% complete before Nintendo pulled the plug on the port as they thought it looked shit. They didn't say that, but that was the gist of what they tried to say. But in 2012, the original rom was compiled together and uploaded to the web for all to enjoy using GameBoy colour emulators.

4 – Animal Forest/Crossing – N64
the original title for animal crossing, was in fact animal forest and was supposed to be one of the first games to be released for the Nintendo 64 disc drive add on for the console. The game was specifically designed to work with the new N64 disc add on as it could use the disc drives internal clock in the game so certain events could take place at a certain time, day and night cycle and more.
But because of the Disc drives failure in the Japanese market, and subsequently the add on never made it state side, the game developers instead ported it over to the cartridge instead of the disc and inserted a clock in the game, but would only keep track of the time when the game was being played and the game was only ever released on a cartridge in Japan.
Now however, modders have been working on translating the game into English and is available in rom form for an N64 emulator.

3 – Dragon Sword 64 – N64
This game was supposed to be an adventure hack and slash game that took advantage of the N64s 3D power, there were 4 playable characters to choose from, each with there own unique abilities and weapons. The game was almost complete and ready to hit the shelves, but the publishers couldn't get the game to market because they were in financial difficulties with other development studios and manufacturers. This left the game in limbo for a long time, and with new consoles being released, it was lost.
In 2009 however, the original game was complied to rom and leaked onto the internet for all to enjoy in emulator form.

2 – Bio Force Ape – NES
This is a bit of a strange one as no one actually knows the reason for it getting cancelled, the devs or publishers didn't know and not even the marketing team who had already started work on the box art.
The game is a typical platform that you would expect to see on the NES, the main character was a genetically modified chimp that would take out enemies with over the top wrestling moves. It is a very fast paced game with reasonably smooth animations.
In 2008, 13 years after it was supposed to be released, a supposed demo cartridge of the game was posted online and after heated augments with the gaming community, it was revealed to be a hoax and it would be another 4 years before a real demo cartridge was found and shortly after a rom was distributed online for emulators.

1 – Star Fox/Wing 2 – SNES
The original Star Fox was a game that redefined the gaming industry and showed the world that 3D gaming was possible on home consoles as 3D polygon based games were only ever seen on more powerful arcade machines.
I personally had the original game and I played it for hours upon hours on end, completing it over and over again, it was epic fun and looked awesome at the time. Then after reading in magazines that star fox 2 was going to be released, I waited for the day it would come out, and waited I did until one day, reading in Nintendo Now magazine that it had been cancelled. I was devastated.
It was cancelled after it was finished no less due to Nintendo's impending launch of the then all new N64, and it remained as a file stored away never to see the light of day.
A rom was eventually leaked and a ''Beta'' version was released for emulator use. It wasn't until Nintendo announced the new SNES Mini that we would see the full game as it was meant to be, as it came pre loaded on the mini console along with other fan favourites.

Cancelled games is something we gamers can not avoid. Today cancelled games are binned because of money issues, back then it was how good does it look, how long is the game, will it fit on the cartridge... most cancelled games never see the light of day. Fortunately there are a select few games that do get resurrected and we can all enjoy them. It may of taken a few years, more than a few years in some instances, but they survived non the less.
