Hi Steemians
On a recent camping trip with my mates one decided it would be a great idea to try our hand at some good old British lawn games… Tbh i would have rather drank more beer and go climbing however he had put the effort in and constructed a ‘Kubo’ set.
Kubb
Kubb or Stickey sticks (according to wikipedia, is a lawn game where the objective is to knock over wooden blocks by throwing a baton at them.
Looking at wikipedia it seems the rules we played were simplified a lot, so if you want to find out how to play the real game check it out here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kubb. However if you want the fun easy drinking version read on!!
Homebrew rules
Each stick is numbered from 1 - 12
Place the numbered sticks in a rough cluster so they are pretty much touching each other
Stand behind an arbitrary line maybe 2-3 meters away
Throw the stick UNDER ARM - yeah the boomerang throw was quickly banned in our version
If you knock over multiple sticks then you score one point for each stick knocked over.
If you knock over only a single stick then you score the amount of points on that stick
Once you have knocked over a stick or sticks - stand the sticks where they landed - yeah the game gets harder as it goes on ;)
Aim
The aim of the game was to score 50 points!! However you needed to land on this number exactly. If you went over, your points total would be reset back to 25.
Overall thoughts
Turns out this game is great fun and gets super competitive. We played with up to 6 players which made it pretty tactical and chaotic!
Anyway let me know your thoughts / improvements and if you your experience should you give it ago!
