I am a huge Dark Souls fan, and Demon Souls is the game that started it all on the PS3. I bought a used PS3 a few years ago just so I could play the game.
Most people who have played Dark Souls never played Demon Souls. Playing Demon Souls was really frustrating for me as the PS3 is so slow and painful to use.
I did end up beating the game but you never really beat a Souls game, 90% of the game is in New Game Plus. I just wanted off the PS3 as fast as possible.
Demon Souls had some unique elements to the game, one of which closed and opened paths based on the global world state (Light/Dark) based on all the players of the game. I never had a chance to really explore this.
I also found the game had very few players to interact with as it was sold old at the time. A new remaster will be jammed packed with players to summon to help you or to invade and kill if that's your fancy.
I'm really excited about this launch and it will be one of the few games I buy with the new PS5 console.
I am really looking forward to seeing how this game looks on a next-gen console. While the game looked surprisingly good for a PS3 even nowadays, I expect it might even exceed the fidelity of Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne.
If you haven't played a Souls game before, Demon Souls it the perfect introduction to the series. Boy, you are in for a treat! Dark Souls is like nothing you ever played before. It is insanely hard but consistent, while it lacks in story, there is an incredible amount of lore if you look hard enough. In fact, I change my mind, it doesn't lack in story at all, it is full of story, it is just not handed to you like an open book. You will need to explore and discover it yourself or do what a lot of us do and watch some good YouTube lore videos that do a fantastic job at piecing it all together.
While I love the single-player story, my favorite part of Souls games is multiplayer, and Demon Souls was among the best for having large crazy fights.
Interestingly though, as I was looking for screenshots I noticed the PS3 Emulator has managed to get Demon Souls working at 4K 120 FPS.
Demon Souls PVP
If you want to check out some Demon Souls PVP, a lot of players organize fight clubs to have a little more organized dueling.
Demon Souls Remake Discussion
VaatiVidya one of the most popular Dark Souls YouTubers talks about the new improvements and what to expect with Demon Souls Remake. If you watch any one video on the new remake, this is the video I recommend.
Dark Souls III was the final Dark Souls by FromSoftware for the foreseeable future. They have mentioned they will allow other developers to continue the Souls franchise, but they just don't want to at this time.
