Apparently the United States Army are trying to recruit eSport players and fans. The reason they are doing this, because they have not reached there recruitment goal.
As you know there are a lot of people out there not interested into talking to military recruiters. However there are many people interested in video games. Reportedly to get there targets these recruiters are joining tournaments for games like NBA 2K19 and Fortnite. Additionally the Army wants make a “functional fitness” team, and eSports fans/players and athletic people would make a great addition to this team they are planing to create.
The Army has even held a eSports tournament this year. They held a Street Fighter V championship series. The Army says, eSports tournaments can help develop a soldier’s outlook and overall fitness. For example...

And I do agree that these are skills that every solider should have.
Like I said, eSports is growing rapidly. Now the army is interested in eSports. Lots of people have a love a games and now they can transfer that energy into the Army. The Army reportedly plans to hold tryouts for a variety of esports teams. People apart of these eSport teams will also be apart of the Army’s Marketing and Engagement Team. This will be big they will travel across country for tournaments and other eSports events. The service will cover the costs for any certifications, competitions, or other requirements, a spokesperson told Stars and Stripes.
