Any sort of early access game is a risk. For example, I was burned on Steam EA with Spacebase DF-9 which was abruptly cancelled. However, I've gotten my money's worth (or more) out of probably 90% of alpha/beta games that I've played.
Blockchain games are a bit unique in that we are often dipping our toes in with hopes that we can turn a profit. There is a lot of risk there, especially given the temptation for devs to cut and run, pull a bait and switch, etc.
The key in this special case is to hedge your investment with... wait for it... fun :) I'm much more likely to invest a decent amount into a fun game like Steem Monsters than the latest musical chairs dividend paying dice game.
