To continue our marvel week lets talk marvel games. Now there are a LOT of them. I can do posts for days but I will be leaving only 3 on this post and I will only be talking beat'em ups (I think I want to talk about the x-men sega games next). A beat'em up is a side scrolling game where you beat up everything on the screen. And that is it. They were a lot of fun. Marvel games populated the nintendo, sega and super. But unlike other franchises they were actually good. Some of them very good, including one of my favorite beat'em ups from super nintendo. And an x-men arcade game that was a quarter eater.
Captain America And The Avengers:
Even the name of the game was cool. Pick your avenger like the cap or iron man and fight your way to the Red Skull. I never beat this game and it was one I need to find sometime. Who is with me for some co-op action? I call hawkeye, don't ask me why, he was always my pick.
X-Men Arcade:
Maybe this is the nostalgia talking but this was one of the best arcade games ever made. You could pick from six heroes including wolverine, cyclops and Colossus (my pick every time). Every character had their own special that made the game easier but you were going to be spending a lot of quarters if you wanted to make it to Magneto. Such a classic. This one never made it to the consoles.
Maximum Carnage:
This game gets my vote as the best beat'em up for the Super Nintendo. Not best marvel but best beat'em up (sorry Final Fight). The reason this game stood out besides the fact you were spider-man was the depth. There was hidden areas, you could climb walls and you could get side kicks to help you out. This was a lot a game that usually consisted of you pressing the same button over and over. And you could shoot web. Plus that awesome sound track.
Any games you want to add? Like Separation Anxiety? Let me know in the comments
Oh and make sure you check out the marvel contest where you can win some SBD!
