First lets talk about the masterpiece that was Goldeneye. Who here has memories of playing this game split screen with friends? For people who grew up with a console and didn't play on the PC, this was one of the first shooting games you were introduced to that had multiplayer. Sure it was couch co-op and you had to deal with screen sniping but still, it was great. Doing loops over the armor until it came back, trying to aim for the head without a second stick to aim. It was great. And it wasn't only the multiplayer that was fun, the design of the single player was unique, packaging each level into a few minutes that you could replay over and over on different difficulties. Each level also came with a timer challenge that let you unlock a cheat code if you passed it.
There were other bond games but they were not as good as Goldeneye. The closest was Perfect Dark, which was not a bond game but had the same design as Goldeneye with a more sci-fi story (and it was great too). But the spy, a great character who is still going strong in the cinema has not had another game that took hours from gamers lives.
And with multiplayer being what it is, there could be a solid bond game made today. It can be a unique story or even a remake of Goldeneye. Not a clean-up HD version but a complete remake. Maybe it could not compete with COD or Titan Fall but if a talented team took it on and took some risks we could get a solid shooter that could stand out. Sure there is the risk it is just another generic shooter but it is a license worth trying again.
Is there still room in the FPS genre for a new bond?
