I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I hate loot boxes and pay to win schemes but I used to love CCGs. I think there are a few differences, with the cards they are physical so you can buy, sell, and trade cards to get what you want/need. The sets are very specific, you buy a pack for a certain set and you have a general idea of the nature of cards in said pack, most loot boxes are just hundreds of items with a chance of appearing. Card packs also always had a designated amount of rare cards (ex. 1 Rare, 4Uncommon, 6 Common) whereas, again, the loot boxes usually don't. Still, these differences are really small, I'm having trouble seeing the difference.
Why am I more okay with card packs than loot boxes?
RE: With all the hoopla over lootboxes today, you should know that this has been happening for far longer.
