Even though we don't do too much work on our garden it still provides for us. The raspberry canes have been very productive. All I really do is cut them down to the ground at the end of the season and they come back the next year. Not all the plants seem to have berries, but there are plenty of them.
The apple trees have been good too. These eaters are great, but the tree does need a prune. Our cooking apple tree has been good too, but we give most of them away. I just put a basket by the gate and people take some. This picker is handy to get the higher apples.
Some of our strawberries are trying to produce a second crop, but I'm not sure they will ripen. I'm trying a plastic bottle to warm them up a little.
Of course the chickens provide all year round, but we'll get less eggs in the winter. We just have to feed them and clean them out. We buy sacks of mash and then they get a few treats such as cracked grains or dried mealworms. They do peck at the fallen apples and we try them with various kitchen waste, but that doesn't fill them up. The peck at the grass and various weeds when we let them out to wander. There are four, but one was elsewhere. They provide enough eggs for us and the neighbour. If there were more it would be hard to keep track of them in the garden.
We'be had other stuff from the garden this year, but we keep trying to do more. The neighbour and I do it between us.
Steem on!
