Hello, steemians, and welcome to my garden, eh!
It was overcast yesterday afternoon, so it seemed like a good time to take a few pictures of the garden plots to post to steemit. I was hoping for some rain, but that didn't happen here. The rain keeps going around us, and I've been having to use city water to water the gardens. If this drought keeps up, I'm going to have to go to the boat landing on the river to get water for my rain barrels, but that's a story for another time.
So, let's take a look at the garden, shall we?
The emmer wheat is doing pretty well so far. There's also white clover growing in the plot as a ground cover.
I finally got all 4 of the blueberry bushes planted, and mostly mulched with pine bark mulch. I need to get one more bag of the pine bark mulch to finish covering the bed. The pine bark mulch helps keep the weeds down, and it helps acidify the soil a bit for the blueberry plants.
The apple trees are blooming now. We have 2 trees, this one is covered with blooms, the other one has blooms, but not as much. It was productive last year, so it's probably not going to produce as many this year.
The rhubarb will be ready to start picking soon. I like to let it grow until the stalks are big before I start picking it. I don't know what I'm going to do with it this year, I already have several gallons of rhubarb wine.
The plum trees are about done with their blooming. The bees have moved on to other flowers now. Somebody has beehives in the local area, which was really nice for the plum trees this year. These trees were swarming with honey bees and various bumble bees when they were in full bloom, hopefully that means we'll get plums this year.
My strawberry patch is starting to bloom nicely now.
One more picture, Teresa planted her popcorn in one end of the garden this year. She chose a variety of popcorn called "Dakota Black", the seeds are a very dark red, almost black. It will be interesting to see how these plants develop.
I still have a fair amount of work to do to get the rest of the potatoes planted, and I have to clean out the raised bed by the popcorn patch so that I can get that planted. I'm also working on a new raised bed by the strawberry patch, but that's going slowly due to my back not wanting to cooperate for very long at a time. I'm almost done with it now, it should be finished this week. I have tomato plants to put in that bed when it's ready.
Well, that's it for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
