Today I just wanted to give you an update on my community garden plot.
The potatoes are up and growing pretty well. I have 6 rows of potatoes there, 5 of them are red potatoes, and the last row is white potatoes of some kind. They were given to me by a gardener who also has a plot at the community garden. I hope I get enough red potatoes this year to can a few quarts.
I can't keep the reds in the basement much past December because they start to sprout and get soft, so we usually eat them first. The white potatoes and the Yukon Golds last a lot longer, the Yukons lasting the longest for me. I have a corner of the basement that is walled off and insulated on the inner walls to try to keep the little room as cool as possible, sort of an indoor root cellar. I can't get the temperature any lower than about 45 degrees in the coldest part of the winter, so that doesn't keep the potatoes as well as I would like, but it's certainly better than just having them in the 65 degree basement.
Anyway, that's my little update on the community garden plot for this week.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my post,eh!
