Hello, steemians! Welcome to da garden, eh!
Today turned out to be a decent day to pick the first harvest of beans from my plants. I say decent because it was partly cloudy today, and I picked when the clouds covered the sun for a bit. I didn't want to pick in the direct sun, it was hot enough in the shade this afternoon.
I started with the yellow beans. I grew these plants in the little raised bed that is next to the container garden. I've been watching the beans grow for about a week now, and some of them were getting rather big, they were pretty obvious on the plants. This is an overview of the bean plants.
You can see the yellow beans in the plants. One thing that I like about yellow beans is that they're easy to find when you're picking them.
I got a pretty good first picking from the plants, especially considering that the raised bed is about 16 feet long, and I only planted a single row of plants.
After I was done picking the yellow beans, I started on the green beans. All the green bean plants are planted in big pots in the container garden. I have 4 big pots planted with green beans. I only got beans from 2 of the pots because I had to replant the other 2 pots, and they're at least a week behind the first two. There was a fair amount of beans on all the plants, but most were smaller than I wanted to pick.
Still, there were enough pickable beans to get a small harvest.
I think I have enough beans to make it worth canning a batch. I may not have a canner full, but I think there's enough for 5, maybe 6 pints, so I'm going to have to get that set up in the next couple of days so I can start canning.
One more picture. The popcorn plants in the main garden are getting really big now, and they haven't started to tassle yet. This is the first year that we've grown this variety, so I don't know how tall the stalks are supposed to get.
That's all I have for this post. Thanks for stopping by to check it out!
