Hello, steemians, and welcome to my garden!
Yesterday was such a nice day, I was able to get more of my garden planted. I started by planting my container garden and the raised bed next to it. This year, I only have 4 big containers to plant, I decided not to use the smaller pots that I used last year, they're not big enough for more than one plant. I like to plant bush type green or yellow beans in the big containers, it keeps the plants up off the ground and keeps the beans from getting mold. Last year I had tomato plants in the raised bed by the containers, this year I decided to plant yellow beans in the raised bed. Since I can only get to one side of the raised bed, it's hard to pick green beans because they're hard to see behind the plants. Yellow beans solves that problem, you can see them on the plant much easier.
Let's take a look at the container garden. The raised bed is behind the containers. I still need to fill 2 of the containers with dirt.
After getting all of the containers ready, I got the raised bed prepared to plant the beans.
Once you have everything prepared, it doesn't take very long to do the planting. It will be several days before they start coming up. In case you're wondering, I put the tomato cages into the containers to help hold up the bean plants as they get bigger, so the wind doesn't blow them over.
In front of the container garden is my little strawberry bed. The plants are starting to bloom now.
I also managed to get 3 more rows of potatoes planted. These are the Russet Burbank potatoes. I bought 5 pounds of these seed potatoes to plant this year, I managed to get 3 full rows out of the 5 pounds. If the eyes on all of the potato chunks sprout, I should end up with 40 plants in these 3 rows.
I dug all the holes for the potatoes with a post hole digger. I only dig down about 4-5 inches to put the potatoes in. After they come up I start pulling dirt up against the plant to bury them a bit deeper. It's easier to harvest the potatoes that way.
After all the potato chunks are in the holes, just pull the dirt from the holes back over the potatoes and you're done.
I have enough room in that section of the garden for 2 more rows of potatoes. I'm hoping to get those two rows planted in the next couple of days. At that point, I'll have all the planting done at home. I still have to finish planting the community garden, hopefully some time this week, as long as the weather is good.
That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
