Morning steemers,
I have some more interesting cactus pictures from my nursery visit to New South Wales this one is super interesting.
(Well at least I think it is :-)
Trichocereus bridgesii 'Montrose' or commonly called the Penis Cactus....... I have no idea why....... haha
This guy was kept in a pot as the owners said it is a bit of a tricky one to grow because it can be prone to rot out when planted in the ground. Obviously a few soil amendments could solve this problem but I am certainly no cacti expert so I kept what I thought obvious to myself.
A bit of a close up of the fresh growth, they do this after rain or fertilising and can be called "pupping"
This form of this cactus is called 'Montrose' and tends to grow in a more prostrate habit, "pupping" more to the sides than growing upright like a "normal" cactus. I think it would make a great ground cover addition to an arid garden design.
TBM "pupping" like mad even though contained in a 140mm pot.
I am slowly falling for cacti, they are not usually my thing, but I guess the more you learn about something the more you grow to love it.
I hope your weekend was a gooden steemers!
Happy gardening,
Sam.
