Afternoon steemers,
Its been another busy week in the private sector slugging away in these "rich people's" gardens :-)
Here are some pictures and info of what happened this Friday, hope you enjoy!
Euploea sp. on Duranta erecta this Butterfly is nearly as common as crows here in Brisbane but still a beautiful sight first thing in the morning!
Physalis alkekengi (Chinese Latern) pushing out its first flower for us, quite a tricky little plant to grow here in Brisbane. This one has needed ever so slightly filtered sunlight and regular treatments of ECO-OIL to keep the mites from completely sucking it dry. Seems to be prone to fungal issues if over-head watered.
To be honest I am not the biggest fan of grass even though I take care of quite a lot of it. But if I was going to recommend a grass to grow in Brisbane it would be this one Zoysia 'Empire' it stripes up quite well when mowed with a cylinder mower. This photo was taken 1 week after it was mowed and is still holding its stripes really well!
A closer look at the flowers or D. erecta pictured with the "Common Crow" butterfly in the first picture of this blog. Well overused in our area but very hardy and have these interesting flowers most of the year. Can be used as an informal hedge and you could get away with using it for a formal hedge if you pruned it weekly. Requires full sun and very little water, hence why it is used so often here in Brisbane.
I hope you have enjoyed this small snippet of my working day here in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia!
Happy gardening,
Sam.
