Hey everyone, I'm Charlotte and I live on the outskirts of Brisbane, Australia on a 670sqm block with my partner - Fabian, two rottweilers (Grizzly & Luna), a ragdoll cat (Duchess) the Hen Pack (names to be finalised) and a few thousand native Australian bees (probs won't be naming those, but open to suggestions!).
My reasons for starting this blog are twofold, one to hold myself more accountable when it comes to my fruit & veggie gardening – think like a fitness journey but for becoming more self sufficient and not letting green things die (#newyearnewme) and secondly to provide other people with the information and learnings from my mistakes (yes, there will be a lot of these and they won't be pretty, good thing I can laugh at my failures).
I've found it hard to find detailed information online when it came down to the nitty gritty of trying to grow your own fruit and veg in a subtropical climate on shocking soil in suburbia, all whilst trying to battle weeds and pests without using any pesticides or poison and spending a fortune. At the moment I may have won a few battles, but to be honest, during Summer here the weeds are winning the war, and I have probably grown enough fruit and veg to feed a small rodent (and I mean small). I'm great at cherry tomatoes, but then you could literally throw a few cherry tomatoes in the garden and you'd be great at growing cherry tomatoes...they thrive on neglect:
I can't promise that this journey will be all sunshine and daisies, but it will be an honest journey through the challenges of trying to grow your own organic fruit and veg in suburbia, I'll share my successes, failures, experiments and information, in the hope that maybe you might grow something too.
