How would you like to have a piece of land and have your own vegetable garden up in the mountains? Vegetable lovers would truly enjoy walking thru acres of land filled with vegetable goodness. Other gardens would even allow you to harvest your own vegetables for a price. Come with me today as I take you on a stroll along........
A Garden of Freshness
Known to be a tourist destination the place is popularly known as The Strawberry Farm located in La Trinidad, Benguet Philippines. Although not only strawberries are planted here, aside from the vegetables there are also gardens of flowers.
If you wish to see my content about the strawberries feel free to check my old work

Here is one of the gardens which caught my attention, "Gum Boots Garden". The entrance to the place greets you with old rubber boots each planted with different sorts of plants. Unfortunately the garden was closed and we had to move as more gardens await.
One of the popular vegetables here is the broccoli. I saw a lot of these planted in the gardens. What makes it popular here is the price which is much cheaper when bought in other locations.
Lots of ways to prepare and eat broccoli. You can blanch it for a minute or two. You could eat it raw just harvest it, wash it and enjoy it. Or add it to dishes like "Beef Broccoli" which is one of my favorite dish. If you prefer you could even Steemit.
It was my first time to see a broccoli which is still planted on the ground. I say it could pass as a small tree don't you think?
Each garden has its own character and it shows with these two guardians. The tall one has got his sunglasses on as the sun is high. The other one kinda reminds me of Wilson from Castaway.
If you love lettuce you would drown to see fields of them ready for picking. Not only that they have different varieties with deep red colors. For your salads, wraps, sandwiches and the list goes on and on for the lettuce.
Farming and gardening life is not easy as you think. There was an instance when hail destroyed most of the plants and lasted for almost an hour. Up in the mountains the weather is colder last year frost also brought damage to some of the crops. Who would think hail and frost would manifest in the Philippines.
Some gardens have their crops planted above ground. This is a good way to prevent ground critters off the plants. Different types of vegetables are planted on the same bed. On the left is a colored lettuce and on the right is I think maybe bok choy which is a variety of Chinese Cabbage as they call it.
I have been told that this is a variety of lettuce. Just look at that deep red color and it does say deep red on it. What amazes me the most is how it grows upwards like a cone. If it grows any more larger you could decorate it with lights and wait for Christmas.
The world is changing and some food are no longer healthy. Growth enhancers, pesticides all has an effect in our food. Sometime I feel that it would be best to plant your own crops unless you know how they are grown.
Eat fresh, eat healthy and live a long happy life.
Thanks for joining me Steemians and have a good evening.
