Mayan calendar
This Mayan calendar is made with thousands of small colorful beads (pearls) by Huichol artisans.
Using colors on ancient symbols and designs, are a typical part of this Mexican tribe.
Huichol people are native Americans who live in Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango (Mexican states). They have their own language, which has nothing similar to Spanish.
During the Spanish Inquisition in the 16th century, many Huichol people managed to stay intact by living in the mountains that are not rich in minerals, and in that case, it was not of Spanish interest. They still live old-fashioned way, without all the technology and luxury of the modern world. This made them live in harmony with nature, and hard work let them survive while following their beliefs and tradition. Huichol people are famous healers (shamans) who are using the power of nature, while performing ceremonies, to heal the body and soul of the one who suffers.
They believe each of us is a small universe, which consists of the spiritual and natural world (water, fire, air, and earth); that living in a harmony with nature can bring us peace, strength, happiness, and love.
