When i watch this movie I can't help but imagine that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were just hanging out one day as pals and said to one another "lets make a movie about being cops!" Then they phoned up Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson and asked if they would like to be in the movie for 10 minutes.
Will Ferrell plays Alan Gamble, who is a forensic accountant for the NYC police department and for the most part he is a boring dude with a very regimented life. He gets partnered up with Terry Holtz (Mark Wahlberg) who is the opposite of Gamble, a bit of a loose cannon who is demoted to a desk job because he accidentally shot Derek Jeter (Jeter is a very-famous-in-America baseball player.)
Terry hates Alan because of his dedication to menial tasks, as do most of the other people in the office, including and especially the two top-cops in the office who are played by Sam Jackson and the Rock. A detective duo who meet their demise in a completely absurd situation that i will not spoil in case you haven't seen this (and you should see it.)
Despite his boring persona, Alan seems to have an inexplicable way with the ladies. it seems as though all hot women want him. This is evidenced in his incredibly beautiful wife that he completely takes for granted (played by the always lovely Eva Mendez,) as well as an ex girlfriend that they must interview and also pretty much anyone else that him and Terry encounter.
This is funny because Mark Wahlberg is obviously the more attractive and suave out of the two, yet none of his advances work. The scene with Christinith is just amazing and well, if you have seen the movie you already know what I am talking about.
Alan and Terry have to sort out their differences in order to bring down a crime syndicate and they eventually find out they are a great team. This comes as no surprise because well, it's a comedy police movie so obviously that is where the story was going to go. While this movie is predictable (which i hate in dramas) the situational comedy is just legendary. This, in my opinion, is one of Ferrell's best films and is something you should definitely watch.
Will and Mark teamed up in other movies in the future but in my mind this one is the best of the bunch.
