This was a random encounter for me. I knew nothing about it other than it was sci-fi. After watching it I would say this movie is actually very worth seeing, especially for sci-fi nerds like me.
It is extremely unlikely that you will ever encounter this movie without really looking for it and in my mind that is a bit of a shame because the underlying story is actually pretty good. I genuinely enjoyed this movie but it isn't without its problems.
The plot consists of a university professor going to investigate some disappearance of hippies in the woods on his own, barely telling anyone about it. The person playing this character named Hopper is named Owen Wilson. I'm just kidding, it's not Owen, but the person who does play Hopper is named Andrew Wilson and manages to sound exactly like Owen Wilson in everything that he says or does. Honestly, this is the only reason you need to see this movie. It is fantastic. I thought it was Owen Wilson dressed up with a beard just trying to pull a fast one on us in B movie.
Upon further research it turns out that Andrew actually IS OWEN's older brother! mystery solved
So the story isn't that bad despite being a bit unbelievable. They discover some sort of time-travel something or other accidentally in the middle of some private property and this is revealed in both the title and the first 10 minutes of the film. The rest of it is actually really cool with some minor, typical movie horsecrap.
The teens who end up getting roped into this are all quite attractive and top heavy, except for the ones that are underage. The thing that annoys me about the dialogue is that it is quite typical of a script that was written by someone who is trying to deliberately waste time to get the movie a certain length, or doesn't know what they are doing.
It is filled with annoying crap like things the speaker literally just saw around the corner but the listener will not believe or go look at for proof. Arguments about seniority amongst a group of people that are meant to be great friends and since they are not in the military this is irrelevant. People refusing to tell one another what they literally just saw because they are too worried about traumatizing the younger members of the group etc. It's dumb, basically.
However, the overall story is actually very compelling and therefore I think you should definitely see this film, especially if you are a sci-fi nerd like me.
The actors are all actually quite good. It isn't their fault that some of the dialogue sucks butt. They handle it quite well and I think that whoever was in charge of editing this thing skipped past that as quickly as they could. Since this movie is barely 1.5 hours long they obviously needed to keep as much of the content as possible, since the movie gods determined a long time ago that 90 minutes is how long a movie is.
i highly suggest you give this movie a chance, especially if you are a sci fi fan like i am.
