Voices from the past
Have arrived at last
Propagating wisdom
And how we had freedom then
Until seldom when "Kwesi broni" arrived.
The voices tell us stories of these lands when there were no lorries
and neither worries but vast green lands, without trees been cut down to construct roads and the only smoke we had were those from firewood burnt to prepare our local green leafy soups without any worry of cancer.
Gold was never scarce then, the very opposite of today.
Grandma said they used to cook in golden pots .
Unemployment was never a disease of the youth .
Herbs were our first aid.
The traditional healers,our specialists.
We have indeed grown into civilization.
But our nation
Is still under construction yet
Lacking the right architects.
Our leaders indeed lack options of development.
This has brought us to crossroads where we have little success but sufficient retardation in development.
Our graduates fold their arms and baggage their talents never to be exposed because our so-called educational system is a failure.
We have adopted the ways of the white .
Designed our thinking in his way.
Trying to perfect the white's culture .
We have abandoned our rich culture in order to capture that of his.
The voices mocks out practices now , ridicules our ways of life and spits on our incumbent culture .
We prefer canned fish to " koobi ".
We prefer chocolate to raw coacoa powder .
We prefer to eat in plastic bags rather than the leaves .
Why won't the voices laugh at us , the person we
so much desire to be has established that our ways are healthier than his.
Yet we still would die to wear his unfitting shoes .
"Koobi "a Ghanaian name for salted dried fish specifically tilapia .
" Kwesi broni" a Ghanaian way of saying a white man..
My question is that what other things have Africans adopted which is in one way or the other detrimental to our success?
