Stoked
I came up with the Hansik House logo in 2015 when we first started our cultural podcast. We had big aspirations at the time, hoping to change the way Koreans and Korean Americans/Foreigners interact in the world. Being a designer, the first little mountain to climb was of course deciding on a name and logo.
The image absorbs the corner imagery style of the South Korea flag, variants of solid black hashes. Each represents a cardinal direction and corresponding element such as East-Sky. I took those geometries and made one that looks like a double H, “|-|-|”, slanted enough to be recognizably similar to the flag and at a bit of a sharper angle to be readable as a type of H.
After getting married this past December, my sister in-law sent me this from Korea as a birthday gift-
Painted and bent steel for the white backing and cut (likely a water-jet) black-painted metal for the logo and writing (‘Hansik House’ in Korean characters).
It has been almost 3 years since starting the podcast and eventually transitioning onto Steemit with my weekly-to-daily content. We’ve always toyed around with ideas of making unique swag and trying to grow the “brand’s” name, but like most hobbies and pet projects, never really made its way to physical form. So it’s no surprise that I was stunned and ecstatic to receive such a gift.
Huge thanks to my awesome new sister in Law “W-K.” I’ll be cashing out a good amount of Steem Dollars for some BBQ the next time I see her in Seoul.
