The Argungu Festival is a cultural event held in Argungu, Kebbi State, Nigeria. It is an annual festival of four day in the northern western part of northern part.
It is held march and April in Argungun Emir's palace ,
The Argungu Festival is a Hausa tradition, culture and customs which is been done in the respect of the Sultan of Sokoto and the Emir of Argungu.
The festival is originated in the 14th century by the sultan of sokoto.
We have different or categories of events under it:
- Fishing Festival: Participants compete to catch fish in the Matan Fada River using traditional methods. The Argungun festival is popularly know for fishing competition among contestants.
- Horse Riding: sokoto is also know for the skills of horse decorations and riding.
Traditional Wrestling: Local wrestlers to showcase their strength and power during the festival .
Food: they cook their indigenous foods and people from different places eat from it.
The women praciptiacted in singing and music and story telling, and also the share folktales during the featival , they also play musical instruments.
Argungu festival promotes cultural heritage and unity among communities. It also serves as a source of revenue through tourism.
The Argungu festival is international events among foreign visitors from the international organizations.
People wear traditional Hausa clothing and adornments even the foreigners.
It is a lovable place to visit , the security is right and there is availability of accomodations in Argungu and their neighbouring cities.
