The Shirelles, out of New Jersey, headed up by lead singer Shirley Owens, got their start in 1957 and reached incredible popularity on the international scene by the 1960's. With their schoolgirl sound incorporated into a new genre of music that went hand in hand with, but also emerged as the counterpart to the male-dominated doo-wop sound, that had begun to sweep over North America......
